These early poems, written between 1975 and 1988 are of great value to my overall catalogue of poetic work because they mark the beginnings of my true style, which no doubt benefited from the practical experience of my various years of employment, with its general commitment to the world. It is true to say that these years were a rich and genuine rollercoaster while poetry, in its academic sense, took a backseat gathering wave after wave of experience and practical development. Nevertheless, I still used poetry as something of a diary, or at least a way of explaining the impact on my life from the various challenges that came my way as a young man, and how I developed as a person of reasonable importance in the world of commercial art and creativity in general.

Looking back, I was of course building on the natural desire to translate a response to the various thoughts and images of life, via the signals from poetry’s fascinating blend of complex simplicity. I was satisfying a craving for constructing something akin to religious prayer in order to help explain how all ‘life and existence’ was interpreted by that person from both the past and the present, which was of course myself, presumably carrying the wild seed from a certain amount of positive faith.
